DDMA meet on Monday to take call on implementing red alert

With the national capital recording more than 15,000 new Covid-19 cases and the positivity rate of more than 15% for two days in a row, Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) is going to meet on Monday where implementation of level 4 (red) of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) will be discussed. In a notice issued on Friday, DDMA said the meeting, to be chaired by LG Anil Baijal, will be held through videoconferencing at noon. Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal will be present along with deputy CM Manish Sisodia, health minister Satyendar Jain, revenue minister Kailash Gahlot, chief secretary Vijay Dev and other officials and experts.10:36 (IST) Jan 08

‘Raise cap on no. of guests at weddings’

Event and Entertainment Management Association has written a letter to chief minister Arvind Kejriwal requesting him to increase the number of guests allowed at weddings. “The first quarter of 2022 was planned with the sector coming into action with full force, but the recent restrictions have brought our hopes down again. The latest order issued by DDMA, which restricts the attendance at weddings to 20 guests, leaves no scope for us to sustain,” stated the letter written by Siddhartha Chaturvedi, general secretary of the association. Owners of banquet halls, hotels and other related businesses have reported widespread cancellation of weddings in Delhi over the past few weeks.08:08 (IST) Jan 08

Centre calls for tighter monitoring in Delhi-NCR

Emphasising on adoption of a unified strategy to fight the surge in Covid-19 cases in Delhi-NCR, Union home secretary Ajay Bhalla on Thursday called for strengthening of the monitoring and containment mechanism in Delhi as well as the nine NCR districts of UP and Haryana. At a meeting chaired by him to review the Covid situation as well as preparedness in DelhiNCR, Bhalla asked the Delhi, UP and Haryana government brass to make thehealth infrastructure in Delhi-NCR region more robust to deal with any enhanced future requirement. AIIMS suspends routine surgeries and admissions

AIIMS has suspended all routine in-patient admissions and non-essential surgeries till further orders. The hospital has also decided to shut its specialty clinic in view of the spike in Covid-19 cases and demand for hospitalisation for patients affected by the viral illness. An order issued by the premier medical institute, which sees a footfall of nearly 8,000 patients daily, says OPD services will continue to function with restricted registrations limited to only prior appointments (new and follow-up).08:07 (IST) Jan 08

On Friday, the cops said that 227 FIRs were registered under Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the Indian Penal Code and 683 bookings made against people who violated the night curfew between 10pm on Thursday and 5am on Friday. Since January 3, restrictions have been imposed on the general movement of people and vehicles between 11pm and 5am, a step taken among a slew of measures to check the spread of Covid infection in the capital.08:07 (IST) Jan 08

Across Delhi, pickets have been erected and manned by policemen on duty complemented by flying squads at each police station. They will keep a close eye out for any violation of the curfew regulations. All police districts have put up 25-30 pickets apart and deployed patrol vehicles and motorbikes for regular vigil in their areas.
